Outdoor Drawing and painting classes for July.

Our last session at Hadleigh Castle!

Here's a few more lined up for July and I'll post the dates for August and September as soon as I've got it all confirmed.

Friday 26th July – Paper mill lock
10am – 4pm or how ever long you want! Free transport for up to 3 students from Southend area.

What to bring? Please bring: Warm, wind, sun and rain proof clothing on all occassions a hat and sun protection cream is also a good idea. This is England after all and you can soon get very cold sitting still even on a hot day!

Wednesday 17th July - Drawing Jacks London - A free sketching event in London's east end organised by Urban sketchers London. We'll be meeting other sketches at 3pm at Whitechapel tube station and then drawing around the east end. I will be leaving at approx 1pm from Southend East station. If anyone fancies joining me let me know and we can go as a group and get a group saver ticket or you could meet us on the way.

Any requests? I've started planning a few more outdoor trips for August and September so if anyone has any requests, either locations or days please let me know.

Drawing and Paining on location Courses.

I've just started to have a look at a few dates on which to run my drawing and painting on location courses again this year and these two will be the first two dates. I'll post some more dates for the rest of June and July soon. Please let me know if there are any particular locations you'd like us to visit.

Monday 3rd June 1.30pm - 4.30pm Priory Park - Meet by the bandstand

Friday 21st June 9.30am - 12.30pm Hadleigh Castle - Meet by the Castle

Cost £7 for 2hrs and £10 for 3 hrs.

Please bring along a hat and warm clothes, sun protection, a stool or collapsible chair to sit on and your favorite sketching or painting medium.

Materials and Suppliers

Here's some of my recommendations for suppliers that I've found both in and arround the southend area and also online stores.

The Strand Gallery - Southchurch road has a good range of art materials and framing supplies. A helpful shop that a discount for students.

Art Shop - Berrys Arcade Rayleigh - a small convenient store in Rayleigh

Over the summer months this year I will be running drawing and painting sessions at various locations on Friday mornings starting at 10 am.

10^th August - Belfairs Woods - Meet by the cafe
17^th August - Cliff’s Pavilion gardens - meet by the pavilion main entrance
24^th August - Old Leigh Town - Meet by Osbournes / Crooked Billet pub
31^st August - Priory Park- Meet by the bandstand.
7^th September - Battlesbridge - Meet by the Antique and craft centre
14^th September - Hockley Woods - meet in the car park

21st September - Thorpe Bay / Shoebury beach huts and sea shore. Meet by ...

Our first session was on the 22nd July at Chalkwell park and we had a couple of brave souls who turned up and braved the wind and rain. The next week we had a very successful session at Hadleigh Castle. I've then taken a break for a few weeks and we're back next week on Friday at Belfairs Woods. Sessions are £7 for 2hrs or £10 for 3hrs. I will do my best to run every session weather permitting. booking isn't really necessary but you want to let me know that's fine and then if I do have to cancel because of the weather I can let you know. If there is sufficient interest I'm happy to organise a few sessions on other days?

John's new paint box

John's made a fantastic job of his new pochade style paint box which he brought to class this week.

And here it is pictured alongside mine. My box was inspired by pictures I've seen of artists working with the Guerrilla boxes and one or two other ideas gleened over the internet over the last year of so and I made it from various bits of scrap wood from the garage and thrown out on a building site last plus fixings from my favorite hardware shop - Izod and Burnip on Southchurch road. It really has worked a treat as it has meant I can create small scale works with pretty much everything I need contained in the box.
